Every woman who wants to look attractive and well-groomed has heard about the traditional technique of eyebrow micropigmentation. The procedure is quite effective, perfectly covering imperfections in the eyebrow area and making them expressive. If we compare it to a tattoo, which is a painful procedure that cannot give the eyebrows a natural look and has a number of disadvantages (the color changing to an artificial tone, such as blue, green or even red).

On the other hand, the powder brows technique is something completely different. It is a modern, almost painless procedure with an amazing effect.

What the „powder brows” technique involves

Powder brows are an ultramodern micropigmentation technique that allows you to achieve a natural appearance of the eyebrows. Today you can come across various synonymous names that stand for this procedure: nano-spraying, velvet, pixelated, dotted, shadow spraying.

During the procedure, the artist introduces the pigment into the upper layers of the skin, blurring it and „drawing” it on. An imitation of makeup is created, as if eyeshadow or pencil had been applied delicately and evenly onto the skin of the eyebrows. This beautiful and „smoky” effect is what brought popularity to the powder brows technique, and today it is preferred by many women.

The result of the procedure is impressive. The eyebrows look well-groomed, natural and tidy. There are no clear contours or boundaries, as happens with classic tattooing or microblading. And, most importantly, this technique suits everyone and has no age limits.

  • Those with overly dense eyebrows, but with areas where small gaps exist.
  • Those with overly light eyebrows who want to give them color.
  • Those whose eyebrow color fades quickly in the sun.
  • Those with uneven eyebrow growth who want a tidier and more beautiful shape.
  • Those with congenital defects or scars in the eyebrow area.
  • Those who do not want to spend a lot of time in front of the mirror every day doing their makeup.

Of course, the main advantage of micropigmentation lies in the fact that, with its help, you can forget for a long time about the need to outline and color your eyebrows with decorative makeup, without worrying throughout the day that it might smudge or run. Thanks to powder brows, the makeup is always perfect, regardless of the circumstances.

The advantages of powder brows

  • Minimal trauma to the skin: the needle is introduced into the upper layers of the skin, to a depth of up to 0.8 mm. This allows for a quick and painless recovery.
  • Fast execution: approximately 1.5 hours for the entire procedure.
  • Hides imperfections: corrects and covers defects effectively.
  • Suitable for women aged 18 and over.

The disadvantages of powder brows

Among the disadvantages of this procedure is only the rather high cost. On average, in the studios of Chișinău, powder-effect eyebrow micropigmentation ranges between 2000 and 3500 lei, plus 50% of this amount is paid for the touch-up, which is mandatory one month after the procedure.

It is not advisable to choose a cheaper offer, because a price that is too low may indicate the artist's lack of competence or savings on pigments, equipment or sterilization, which may involve corresponding risks.

As our experience shows, clients who had permanent tattooing done for less than 2000 lei regretted it — the consequences of the work of inexperienced artists were obvious. At the very least, in such cases, a touch-up by another artist in Chișinău was necessary.

How is powder-effect eyebrow micropigmentation performed?

The consultation

The artist discusses with the client aspects such as the chosen contour, the color, the shape and other important details. The artist can offer suggestions, taking into account the shape of the face, the color and shape of the eyes, the hair and the skin.

Creating the sketch

The eyebrows are corrected, excess hairs are plucked, and the shape is adjusted. The artist discusses the sketch with the client and adjusts it until full agreement is reached.

The anesthesia

Various anesthetic ointments, gels or sprays (lidocaine-based) are used. Even though powder brows are considered a procedure with minimal trauma to the skin, minor injuries and slightly more sensitive sensations cannot be avoided. To minimize discomfort, the artist applies the anesthetic.

The completion

At the end of the procedure, the artist provides consultations regarding post-procedure care and forecasts the date for the mandatory touch-up, which should be done approximately one month after the first visit to the permanent makeup studio.

Contraindications for eyebrow micropigmentation

There are certain contraindications for powder eyebrow tattooing, even though the technique has numerous advantages.

  • Increased sensitivity: people with increased sensitivity may be more sensitive to the procedure.
  • Allergies: those with allergic tendencies must be cautious in order to avoid allergic reactions.
  • Diabetes mellitus: not recommended for people who take insulin.
  • Viral diseases: patients with viral diseases should avoid this procedure.
  • Infections: people with various types of infections should postpone the tattoo until healing.
  • Poor blood clotting: clotting problems can affect the healing process.
  • Severe acne: people with severe acne should postpone the procedure until the skin heals completely.
  • HIV: people with HIV are contraindicated for this procedure.

Relative contraindications include pregnancy, due to hormonal changes. The artist cannot guarantee that the pigment will hold evenly, so during this period the procedure is performed at the client's own risk and responsibility.

How do powder brows heal?

The process of healing and recovery of the skin after the eyebrow powdering procedure does not differ from the process that takes place after other permanent makeup techniques.

In the first few hours, redness may appear — a normal reaction of the skin to the numerous perforations. As the skin begins to heal, flaking may form. If the flaking is minimal, it means the healing process is proceeding correctly. It is strictly forbidden to try to remove the crusts yourself.

During the healing period, a slight itching sensation may appear. It is not recommended to scratch your eyebrows. The skin's healing period lasts approximately 5–7 days, and the skin fully recovers and renews itself within a month, provided you take proper care of the eyebrows after the procedure.

In the first 2–3 days, it is recommended to avoid contact with water, to prevent introducing bacteria through the open wounds. It is also not recommended to use facial cleansing products. Avoid applying any cosmetic products to the eyebrow area (creams, oils, gels, serums). Do not do peeling or exfoliation and avoid plucking the hairs for at least 7 days.

During the healing period, postpone visits to the sauna and bathhouse. Wear a wide-brimmed hat in case of prolonged sun exposure — direct rays can negatively affect the traumatized skin. After healing, apply sunscreen before sun exposure.

To prepare properly: stop taking blood-thinning medications, antibiotics and other medications based on them a few days before the procedure; avoid correcting, plucking and coloring your eyebrows a few days beforehand.

The powder effect for eyebrows lasts between 1.5 and 2 years. The exact duration cannot be predicted, being individual and depending on the body. Over time, the pigment gradually disperses and, after a few years, it will disperse completely. This is also an advantage: after a short time you can repeat the procedure, changing the shade, shape, intensity or trying another type of permanent makeup.

3 factors in the fading of the pigment

  • Skin type: oily and porous skin loses the pigment much more quickly.
  • The specifics of the immune system: the stronger the immunity, the faster the elimination of the pigment occurs.
  • Age: the older the woman, the more slowly the pigment fades.

The touch-up of powder brows is practically a mandatory additional procedure in almost 100% of cases. It prolongs the duration of the effect (the pigment is reintroduced and fixes better under the skin) and eliminates the defects that appeared during the healing process (areas with missing pigment, discoloration, changes in shape).

The first procedure for powder brows can be considered a „getting to know the skin”. It is not known how the body will react to the foreign substance, which is why the desired result is not always achieved immediately. The touch-up quickly solves this problem, allowing the color to be balanced, defects to be eliminated, the shape to be adjusted and the result to be brought to perfection.
